The formal application for a Church dedicated to St. John the Evangelist was made to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1874, and the Church was completed in 1876. The Church was originally a daughter church of St. Leonard’s, Padiham, until 2002 when it became a parish church in its own right.
